For the Voyeurs those who like it.. ‘Real’

1. Too Hot to Handle [Reality TV]

Duration: 1 season; 8 episodes

About: A group of attractive men and women stay together in a luxurious villa. They are young, hot-blooded, prohibited from urm.. self gratifying, free to find love.. BUT physical contact with one another will cost them $100,000, starting with $3,000 for a kiss.. Can they resist?

Producer: The concept of having attractive people live together under one roof is not uncommon for reality tv, but throwing this variant of ‘social distancing’ in the mix is novel; it brings ‘sex sells’ to the next (lower?) level. Degen or not, it got us hooked! There’s lots of playful humour, some not-so-original sometimes teetering on cringey cliche life-lesson sessions but you know what? We are human. You got us at the goss. Guilty pleasure? Guilty as charged!

For the Non-Stop Action Drama Mamas!

2. Money Heist [Crime Drama]

Duration: 2 parts; 31 episodes

About: A mysterious man named ‘The Professor’ recruits a group of skilled criminals to carry out a grand heist, with their lives and billions of euros at stake.

Writer: Money heist is extra charming in the vast expanse of heist content because of its synchronous multilayered storytelling. There is the thrill of the heist laced with heavy political undertones as protagonists wreck havoc in Salvador Dali masks, identical red jumpsuits and cities as names, representing everyman’s resistance against the system. Beyond that, the backstories of each member actually actively leads and propels the narrative forward, simultaneously tugging at our heartstrings in all directions!

For the Drama Mamas that relish heart wrenching suspense!

3. Caliphate [Thriller Drama]

Duration: 1 season; 8 episodes

About: Three women - a mother, a student and a cop struggle with their lives and beliefs, as their fates get intertwined in an ISIS terror attack. With an overarching theme of radicalisation, this series is set in both Sweden and Syria and examines life within terrorist organisations.

Director: I was immediately overwhelmed by claustrophobia and gripping tension. The shots, the colours, the sounds - the cinematic elements all came together, so well and convincingly, building a real atmosphere of war - long drawn, fueled by fear and anxiety but not callous and overly dramatic. No mean feat indeed! Above entertainment, Caliphate educates through the heart. A must-watch!

For the child within you & your children!

4. Studio Ghibli Movies [Japanese Animation]

Duration: 1h 30m ~ 2h per movie

About: Dive into beautiful, action-packed and heartwarming fantasy worlds created by the storytelling legend Hayao Miyazaki!

Movies: Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke, Howl’s Moving Castle, Castle in the Sky, Kiki’s Delivery Service, Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, Ponyo, Porco Rosso, My Neighbour Totoro, From Up On Poppy Hill, Whisper of the Heart, The Tale of the Princess Kaguya, The Wind Rises, Arrietty

Animator: As a die-hard fan of Ghibli Animations, I just had to put this in the list! Not only is every single one of the Ghibli movies breathtakingly beautiful, each of them tells such unique stories that can’t be found anywhere else. They are really special experiences. Almost all of the Ghibli masterpieces are now available on Netflix, perfect for a weekend of binge-watching, soul healing and precious memory making for those with children of their own.

For the K-Drama fanatics and Koreaboos!

5. Hospital Playlist [Korean Drama Series]

Duration: 1 season, 7 episodes (5 more to come!)

About: Old medical school friends reunite as doctors working in the same hospital! While their friendship ties them through numerous daily struggles, they also decide to form a band.

Writer: Korean dramaaa!!! (please excuse the intensity of my passion) Hospital playlist is one of the hottest dramas in Korea right now. Not for any shocking familial secrets or Goblin-like fantasy, but for its down-to-earth and loveable characters. The everyday struggles of doctors, both in and away from their professions, is told in such a heartfelt way. You won’t be able to stop once you press play on episode 1!
